A Fermentation Profile uses the end products of fermentation to characterize the quality and extent of fermentation for ensiled feeds. Many factors work together to create the final ensiled product including the initial moisture and sugar content, naturally occuring bacteria, added inoculants and acids, packing density, particle size, and temperature. A Fermentation Profile can be used to see how all of these factors worked together during fermentation, provide insight into what areas could be improved, and provide some perspective of how the fermentation end products may effect animal performance.
