The World Forage Analysis Superbowl is an exciting contest held each fall at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, WI. Forage growers enter their highest quality forages in eight different categories to compete for more than $26,000 in cash prizes. Dairyland Laboratories serves as the official analysis lab for the contest.
The winning forage samples are on display at the south end of the new Trade Center Building at Expo. Forage experts from the U.S. Dairy Forage Research Center, University of Wisconsin and other research centers are on hand to present cutting-edge information and to answer individual forage research questions at several seminars associated with the contest.
Samples are prepared and analyzed by near infrared technology (NIR) and sorted by quality based on milk per ton for the two corn silage categories and Relative Forage Quality (RFQ) for the other six categories. Finalists for each category will be judged by the University of Wisconsin personnel based on visual judging criteria.
